Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage page.

The Reception class teacher is Mrs Sharman, and the support staff are Mrs Foxley, Mrs Hurdiss, Mrs Spilsbury, Mrs Marsden

Pre-school and Reception are mixed in our Early Years Unit in our mobile classroom. 

 Pre-School

We aim to ensure your child’s experience in Springfields Pre-School Class is a happy and rewarding one. It is very important that our children get the best start to their education. We have a fun, busy and nurturing environment that is well equipped to help the children to develop both academically and socially.
Activities in Pre-School are carefully planned through purposeful play in order to provide a wide range of learning experiences. The children have daily opportunities to play inside and outdoors. Adults lead activities where the children focus on particular areas of learning. There are 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
We also learn together during continuous provision time where the children choose the activities they wish to participate in. Staff have the opportunity to observe the children’s interests and use these to enhance their learning.

Reception

We teach through a very play based curriculum where all areas of learning are covered through play both indoors and outdoors. We are always busy learning together during continuous provision time and we have whole class times for Literacy, Maths and phonics as well as times to look at the topics which interest the children. In Reception we follow the Revised Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, learning through purposeful play.

Topics are planned that follow the children’s interests, capture their imagination and develop their learning in the following areas:

• Communication and Language
• Literacy
• Physical Development
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The children engage in a range of activities that are based on first-hand experiences around these areas of learning which the children can access both inside and outside the classroom.
